Services for the Town of Campton

The town of Campton offers a variety of services. Campton supports highly-qualified local police, fire and ambulance services.

An elected Road Agent is responsible for maintaining Town roads and Streets. There are two local banks as well as a cable TV provider.

Solid Waste Disposal
Campton, Thornton, and Ellsworth share a transfer station and recycling facility on Route 175 in Thornton. There are assorted bins and sheds and several balers and compactors for its operations.

* Monday - Wednesday - Sunday * 10am - 5pm
* Saturday * 8am - 5pm

The transfer station accepts sheetrock, asphalt shingles, waste oil, scrap metal, batteries, tires, mattresses, yard waste and compost and appliances, in addition to household waste. A fee is charged for some items that cannot be recycled. Recycling is mandatory for mixed paper, newspaper, cardboard, glass, tin cans, aluminum cans and plastic.

Water Department
The water department serves only part of the Campton Village Precinct, primarily the area commonly called the “Village” along Route 49 between Route 175 and I-93, and parts of the “Upper Village” and “Lower Village”to approximately the Campton Elementary School. About 180 residences and 20 light commercial users are now serviced.

Town Office Building

A wooden frame structure, originally built as a school in the 1930’s, now functions as the Town Office Building. It is situated centrally in the Village on Main Street and has adequate parking in front.

Highway department
One full-time salaried Road Agent and two part-time paid assistant currently staff the highway department. Additional plowing and other maintenance are annually contracted to local firms as needed.

Fire Department
The Campton-Thornton Fire Department provides fire protection with a full-time paid chief and on-call staff of 30 who are paid for time spent working. The area covered by this department is about 132 square miles. Equipment is stored in two locations—one in Campton and one in Thornton. The Campton Fire Station is located on Route 49 near Exist 28 of I-93.

Police Department

A professional, fully staffed, full-time police department provides police protection with a full-time chief and four other full-time officers and a secretary. There are also two part time officers. The department is “committed to providing the highest quality of police services to the people who live, work and visit our Town … and to safeguard life and property, preserve the peace, prevent and detect crime, enforce the law, and protect the rights of all citizens.

Cemeteries
The main town cemetery is on Blair Road, laid out in 1854 with 725 burial sites, and is near the Blair Covered Bridge. There are ten historic cemeteries also kept up by the town but are no longer actively used.

Medical and Social Services
Speare Memorial Hospital has received an award for being a TOP 100 HOSPITAL.
The hospital is located 9 miles south in Plymouth, offers a modern health care facility with a 24-hour emergency department.

Library
The Campton Town Library is situated in front of the Campton Elementary School. It was built in 1986, is handicap accessible and comprises about 1250 square feet. Approximately 12,000 volumes are housed in the library, with books for both adults and children. It is staffed with one part-time librarian and is open during school hours as well as eight hours weekly in the evenings and on Saturday. View website
